A judge has ruled Chilean airline LAN can continue to use its hangar in Areoparque Jorge Newbery without ‘interference’ from the Argentine government.

The ruling, handed down today, ordered the state “refrain from interfering with the use, possession, and running of the hanger at Aeroparque Metropolitano Jorge Newbery”.

Judge Liliana Heiland issued the injunction in favour of the airline, which suspends the resolution from the Regulator of the National Airport System (ORSNA) to evict the airline from their hangar at the airport. The injunction will last for six months or less if the “underlying issue” is resolved more quickly.

On 21st August, ORSNA ordered LAN leave its hangar in Aeroparque within 10 days as a result of new regulations to re-organise the airport, which came into effect at the beginning of August.

The Chilean airline said the move might force it to shut down operations in Argentina, causing moments of friction between the two countries.

LAN was awarded a temporary injunction before the ten-day deadline expired at the end of August, allowing it to carry on with its daily operations.

The latest ruling comes a day after the Argentine government’s decision to relocate LAN check-in operations at Aeroparque from the prominent Terminal A to Terminal B before the end of the year, when renovations to the terminal are expected to be finished.
